Admissions and eligibility

This page contains detailed information on the student selection process for the UAS Pathway programs. When applying for UAS Pathway programs, you must hold such school-leaving certificates that would make you eligible to apply for higher education in your home country.

If English is not your first language, you have the following options:
1. Prove your proficiency in English skills by an internationally recognized language test or       
   previous studies.
2. If you are not able to provide the language test certificate, you have the opportunity to   
    participate in an online interview. We kindly ask and recommend taking the free IELTS self-
    test before the interview:

Application process

How to apply?

Step 01

You must complete an online application form and attach the required documents.

Step 02

In step two, you’ll receive an acceptance letter with instructions on how to confirm your study place by paying the study fee.
Before starting the studies, we need to verify your identity.

Step 03

After successfully completing the first two steps, you are ready to join the UAS Pathway program. Teaching and lessons will start at the beginning of September 2024.

Eligibility

When applying for UAS Pathway programs, you must hold such school-leaving certificates that would make you eligible to apply for higher education in your home country. Also, applicants must prove their English language skills to be invited to the International UAS Pathway program.

You are eligible to apply if you have completed one of the following:

  • Foreign qualification providing eligibility for higher education in the country in question
  • Studies required for graduating from Finnish upper secondary school
  • Finnish Matriculation Examination
  • International Baccalaureate Degree (IB)
  • European Baccalaureate Diploma (EB)
  • Reifeprüfung (RB) or Deutsches Internationales Abitur Degree (DIA)
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, Postgraduate Degree, or Doctoral Degree

Each applicant’s eligibility will be verified during the application process.

Language skill requirements

Excellent skills in the English language are required to succeed in UAS Pathway programs conducted in English.

If English is not your first language, you have the following options:
  • Prove your English skills through an internationally recognized language test certificate or previous studies (see below). Please attach the required document to your UAS Pathway application.

Language test results

  • IELTS Academic: a minimum total score of 6.0
  • TOEFL Academic (iBT): a minimum total score of 60
  • PTE Academic: a minimum total score of 55
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced: a minimum total score of 169
  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency: a minimum total score of 169

Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) English

  • Proficiency level 4 on all the subtests (reading, writing, listening and speaking)

Upper secondary or higher education degree completed in English

  • EU/EEA country
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • New Zealand
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom
  • the United States

One of the following grade cases in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, European Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate or Reifeprüfung/DIA

  • Finnish Matriculation Examination: English on an advanced Level with a minimum grade of M
  • International Baccalaureate completed in English
  • International Baccalaureate diploma: grade 4 in higher level English. Please note that the predicted grade is not taken into consideration.
  • European Baccalaureate: at least grade 6.00 in L2-level English
  • Reifeprüfung/DIA completed diploma: at least grade 7 in advanced English

Refugees and Asylum Seekers

If you are a refugee, have a status comparable to a refugee, or are an asylum seeker and thus unable to verify your previous degree, we may still invite you to the online interview. Please explain your situation in your online application.

Times and dates

Important dates for applying.

1. Application period

Online application is open from
April 1 to August 9, 2024
Students who are eligible for the UAS Pathway program are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis based on their registration order.

2. Selection

ICT: 180 students
GAMES: 80 students
IB/BIT: 60-100 students
(Eligibility students are accepted to study In order of registration!)

3. Selection results

Applicants will be notified weekly of students selection results

4. Study place acceptance

Applicants must confirm the study place by paying the study fee within 14 days after receiving the acceptance letter.

5. Study fee

The study fee is 6000€ (incl. VAT)

6. Study period

The UAS Pathway study period runs from September 2024 to May 2025.

The Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences taking part in the program have a selected number of study places available for those who have successfully completed the UAS Pathway program. After the Pathway year, the tuition fee and scholarship policy depend on each university’s own policy.  In the separate application, you can choose the universities you want to apply to.

Applying to Degree Programs

Students who have completed at least 30/60 ECTS with an average grade of ≥3,0 (grading scale 1-5) by December 2024, are eligible for applying to degree programs in February 2025.

The Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences taking part in the program have a selected numbers of study places available for those who have successfully completed the UAS Pathway program.

If you have not completed enough ECTS or your average grade falls below 3,0, you can still apply to degree studies in the normal joint application process.

All students taking part in the UAS Pathway program that choose to continue to degree studies will be accredited with the courses and ECTS they have completed during the UAS Pathway program. The UASs request that students complete at least 50-60 ECTS of UAS Pathway studies before starting degree studies.
